Is it bad if a tick is engorged?

An engorged tick is a tick that is feeding on you or your pet's blood. This is means the tick has fully latched on and could be transmitting diseases.

Here is a video of a real-life, engorged tick for reference:

First and foremost, remove the tick. It's important to try use a tick hook instead of tweezers as they leave none of the tick behind (which could continue transmission of infection). If you only have tweezers, then opt for these but you must remove gradually and firmly.

If you got a tick in the UK, there are not many tick species here that are likely to carry Lyme disease but you can't necessarily rule it out. Check this by looking for a "bullseye" ring around the tick bite. If you have something along these lines, seek medical attention asap.
