What kills fleas on your floor?

Getting rid of fleas in floorboards requires persistence and a mix of cleaning, heat, and natural deterrents:

  • Vacuuming thoroughly, especially between cracks, under furniture, and along baseboards so you can remove eggs and larvae. Dispose of the vacuum bag immediately or empty it outside to prevent reinfestation.

  • Steam clean your floors if possible; fleas and their eggs can’t survive high temperatures.

  • Sprinkle baking soda or fine salt into floorboard gaps and let it sit overnight before vacuuming again as this dehydrates flea eggs and larvae.

  • You can also use diatomaceous earth, a natural powder that kills fleas by drying them out (make sure you wear a mask during application).

  • Wash any nearby fabrics (rugs, pet bedding, curtains) in hot water and by this we mean, above 60°C.

  • Use essential oils like eucalyptus, lavender, or cedarwood diluted in water as a natural spray to repel fleas from the area.

  • Treat your pets and maintain prevention with vet-approved flea treatments; otherwise, they’ll keep reintroducing fleas. Repeat cleaning every few days for at least two weeks to break the life cycle. Consistency and heat are key to permanently eliminating fleas from your floorboards.
